sweet seven layer dip recipe -- yes, really!

gummy bears' picnic!

How much do we love you, dear readers? Let me count the ways. There are seven of them.

Since many of you nom-nom-nominated seven layer dip as your favorite guilty pleasure snack, we have created a dessert version for the guiltiest pleasure yet.

Come on along as I walk you through each decadent, nostalgia-inducing step.

if this is wrong, i don't want to be right

Here's all you'll need to re-create this dessert version of the classic Tex-Mex dip:

  • peanut butter (standing in for refried beans)
  • Nutella (as awesome as guacamole)
  • Marshmallow Creme, aka Fluff to my fellow Northeasterners (this is your sour cream layer)
  • Shredded coconut (a perfect substitute for grated cheese)
  • Chocolate chips (instead of black olives)
  • Salted peanuts (a salty twist, instead of the traditional jalapeño kick)
  • Gummy bears (stay with me here.... We needed something to represent salsa, and gummy bears at least simulated the colors; plus, they're gummy! and bear-shaped!)
  • Nilla Wafers and Ritz crackers (your tortilla-esque scoopers)
  • nerves of steel — the prospect of combining all these items into one dessert was a bit scary, but the results were far better than we dared hope

peanut, peanut butter

First you spread a generous layer of peanut butter in a shallow bowl. We chose a glass pie dish so you could see the luscious cross-sections.

your Nutella is in my peanut butter!

Then add an even more generous layer of Nutella. Why more generous? Because it's Nutella. Too much is never enough.

fluffernutter has nuttin' on this dessert

Next, spread your fluffy marshmallow creme in a slightly smaller circle so the layers are visible from the top. This layer was a challenge to spread; we had the best results by placing a large dollop in the center and fanning it out to the edges. Then sprinkle on chocolate chips.

put the nuts on the coconut and eat them all up

Add coconut and salted peanuts to taste. Sweet-toothed tigers can up the coconut, and those who want a little salt to counteract all the sugar can go heavier on the nuts.

i can hardly bear it....wacka, wacka

Bring on the bears for a splash of color and a chewy surprise ... that was celebrated by gummy fans and vaguely troubling to those who do not necessarily favor a fruity taste that keeps on giving while chewing.

when i dip, you dip, we dip

Dip your Nilla (or Ritz) deep to get each layer and enjoy!

This looks awesome! The only change I'd make is that I'd also serve with pretzels. I love the sweet-salty combo.

Looks great, I think I will try some dried fruit instead of the gummy bears. Maybe pineapple and apples.

Looks yummy!!

Trail mix instead of peanuts and gummie bears. The mix of nuts and m&m's were yummy.

Reminds me of the breakfast scene in Elf.

@Becca: LOL! All it needs is maple syrup!

looks great,i will try it when i get home.

thank you

that looks crazy good!!!!!

i dont like peanut butter but i bet it would go over well at a kids party

This looks so yummy! I think it'd be fun to have bowls for icecream on the side as well, since the dip sounds like it'd be great for toppings.

I don't believe that anyone would ever eat this. After taking a few bites, one is surely beginning to feel sick.

Oh pizzaboy, y ou are so wrong. unfortunately i would eat a lot of this dip. So would a lot of other people. Yum.
