wrapper's delight

wrapsody in green

I'm one of those people who really loves wrapping presents. And what's better than wrapping presents? Wrapping presents with beautiful, fancy paper that also happens to be earth-friendly!

The Smith & Hawken recycled gift wrap is festive, elegant and classic, as evident by the pic above. Plus you'll find ribbons and accessories that coordinate to make your gift look like it's straight out of one of those mall wrapping stations.

Coworker Johnine introduced me to the eco-chic gift wrap from artist/designer Amy Butler. Her line includes 100 percent post-consumer recycled wrapping paper, gift bags and gift card boxes in Victorian-esque prints that are oh-so-lovely and perfect all year round.

For those who like their eco-minded gift wrap a little quirky, the Fish Lips Paper Designs holiday wrapping paper prints will give your recipient a chuckle or two. Just check out "Chilly Dogs" and "Oh Deer" to see what I mean.

I read in Plenty magazine that you should avoid wrapping paper that has metallic embellishments, because materials used to bond metallics to paper make the paper un-recyclable.

I think it would be cool to wrap gifts in plain brown paper from grocery bags, and then wrap a wide strip of the fancy eco-paper around like a sleeve accent.

I really love your idea of using earth friendly wrapping paper. I'm using the idea out of Nancy Kruse's book "Treasure Hunt-A Book of Clues for Parties" to do a Treasure Hunt this Christmas with the whole family. I want to hide some of the presents and use the clues (fun cut-outs from recycled grocery paper) for the family to find their gift!
