ez costumes off the radar
Some of us start thinking of Halloween costumes months in advance; some of us don’t. For those who fall in the second category, here are two easy-to-put-together costumes that get bonus points for being uncommon yet recognizable.
Magnum, P.I.
All you need is a Hawaiian print shirt, a bushy brown mustache and a Detroit Tigers baseball cap. There’s something comical about a gaggle of Magnums, so feel free to convince a group of guys to dress up in this get-up — even the costume-phobic should be game.

Housefly
First step: Wear black. Second step: Get some wings — easy enough to find around Halloween time. The above wings are repurposed from a bee costume.
The third step takes a little crafting time but isn’t hard. Break a large tea infuser/mulling ball in two (you can find them at kitchen stores or tea shops) and super glue to a black piece of cloth (the above is the bottom strip of a black T-shirt). Flies don’t have antennae but when people think of insects, they think of antennae, so give the public what they want. Attach black pipe cleaners/antennae to the headband by creating two little holes, placing the pipe cleaners through the holes, then folding them pipe cleaners beneath the headband.
Simple, yet doppelganger-proof — hurrah!

Love the Magnum PI idea! For the slightly more ambitious, a group of Magnums could recruit a few Higgins to spice things up.

The Detroit Tigers thank you for boosting the sales of their merchandise. That should lessen the sting of not being in the World Series this year (well, or any in recent years).

My husband and I were invited to a halloween party and wanted to go as something unique. 4 Hours before the party I came up with Dr. Pepper and Root Beer.
I wore a doctors outfit with Pepper for the name tag and Hot pepper necklace.
My husband took roots from our garden and glued them on to his shirt and pants. Took empty beer cans and wore a belt of it. Root Beer!
