question of the week: autumn gatherings

qwestyuns. I haz dem.

It seems like only yesterday that we were asking you about your favorite types of summer get-togethers. But since today is the first day of autumn, it's time to start thinking about heading indoors for your next party (and my fashion barometer is telling me that I can start pulling out the cashmere sweaters and opaque tights. Yippee!).

I, personally, can't wait to go to one of those dinner parties where the smell of mulled cider wafts through the house, and the menu includes dishes that are distinctly fall (like Grace's butternut squash risotto). What are you excited about for fall? If we didn't include your fave get-together, tell us about it in the comments.

my friends and i go to a different haunted attraction each year, and afterwards come back to my house and have spiked cider and warm spiced wine on my patio, next to the firepit! sweaters and wine and firepit and friends! so nice!

I met a woman recently who has a business where they do "in-house" wine tasting, so I'm going to try that out sometime this fall.

You forgot bonfires!

I'm down for all of the above, and am adding apple picking to the list, as long as said picking also including a lot of apple eating and drinking.

We host a chili cookoff every year. This year for a new twist, everyone who brings chili is to bring a bottle of wine, and the cumulative bottles will be the prize!

We've recently started fall tradition of hosting a soup & poetry night. Esential ingredients: hearty fall home made soup, a few good poetry books, good friends, and a crackling fire. Its especially fun doing dramatic poetry readings by nothing but candle & fire light!

I am hosting a "Fall Party" this weekend, where everyone has to bring an autumn-inspired dish to share with everyone. I'm making pumpkin cheesecake and caramel apple cheesecake, as well as spiced cider, and hanging silk fall leaves from the ceiling around the house. This has turned into an annual event. It's so fun... I love fall, and it provides an excuse to hang with friends!

Autumn Gatherings will help you make the most of this season's natural bounty. Award-winning cooking instructor Rick Rodgers's recipes are purposefully uncomplicated, focusing on the flavors, aromas, and colors of autumn.
