frozen whiskey sours? brrr-illiant

show me the way to the next whiskey bar...oh, don't ask why

Frozen whiskey sours have a way of disappearing. For example, there was one in a glass sitting beside my computer just a few minutes ago, and now it’s gone. (I drank it.) When I make this concoction for parties, I typically run out within the first two hours of my soiree. And the recipe makes a lot.

The frozen whiskey sour may give the margarita a run for its money in the Most Awesome Frozen Cocktail category. (Nominations for other Most Awesome Frozen Cocktails will be accepted in the comments section below.) There is, in fact, much to love about the frozen whiskey sour. Such as:

A.    You can make it in advance, and it sits patiently in the freezer until you are ready to consume it.
B.    It is very refreshing and a guaranteed hit at a summer party.
C.    It is delicious.

And if you normally don’t like whiskey sours, not to worry. You’ll like this. I’ve never encountered a person who didn’t.

for if we don't find the next whiskey bar, I tell you we must die

Frozen Whiskey Sours

  • 1 12-ounce can frozen orange juice
  • 1 12-ounce can frozen lemonade
  • 1½ cups sugar (or to taste)
  • 5 cups water
  • 3 cups whiskey (or 2½ cups whiskey and ½ cup apricot brandy)
  • Ginger ale

Mix all ingredients except the ginger ale together in a large bowl, then place in a container in the freezer for 48 hours. The mixture will form a slush. To serve, spoon out slush into a glass, break up with spoon and top off with ginger ale — roughly 1 part slush to 2 parts ginger ale or to taste. Feel free to spike with additional whiskey.

You can also use iced tea instead of water for a yummy variation.

Another contender for Most Awesome Frozen Cocktail is the milkshake-esque frozen mudslide. Is it a cocktail or is it dessert? Who knows? Who cares?!

"Cocktail" is probably too high-falutin' a word for it, but I'm a fan of spiking my Slurpees with vodka or rum, depending on the flavortastic concoction I've mixed up.

Do you have to make up the juices first? Add the water etc.?

Kim: LOVE the iced tea idea, especially since I'm a tea fanatic.

Lindsay: Yum!

Eva: This sounds awfully low-tech....

Steph: Nope. Just throw them in as is.

Sound delicious, but I think I'll have to do my own research :-)

Try it with Glerothes Select Reserve single malt Scotch for amazing results to perfect this drink!

Oops, Glenrothes....

Wow. This drink is amazing! I made up a few batches in ice cream pails for a big party. So easy to serve (no running out of ice) and a hit with absolutely everyone. so I wasn't mixing a ton of different drinks. Everyone was happy with either this or a beer. I had never drunk whiskey before (we call it rye here in Canada) but I loved this drink. And no hangover! Maybe it's all the juice and water?

Thank-you so much for sharing!
