question of the week: dads rule
We celebrated moms for Mother's Day, and now, with Father's Day this Sunday, it's time to send our dads a little love.
I was so the kind of kid who played the "my dad is cooler than your dad" game. I had a lot of weapons in my arsenal. My dad can draw Donald Duck perfectly and do magic tricks. I don't think I've beaten him in any card game ever (the man remembers which cards have been played, which is both annoying and impressive), and he always gets holes in one in mini golf.
He built my bookshelves and a picnic table and always knows which tool to use to fix stuff. He has traveled around the world, eaten every exotic food offered to him and has a special smoking jacket he wears each Christmas Eve. Smooth.
I know there are a lot of other great dads out there. Tell us about them!

Eva,
Your Dad sounds awesome. My home was alway the home friends wanted to hang at. My parents were awesome going up. I always thought my dad was the most handsome man who ever lived. He was kind and funny... he was in the Navy until I was 10 so I did not get to see a lot of him. When he was home he would take to dad daughter dinners and would where his dressed Blues, I was a princess for the evening with the my Prince. My dad could do anything as well.
When President Reagan came to town, my dad worked for the county and he could to have some of the wood from President Reagan's platform, and from it he made me a toy box... he fixed my bikes, he took me on trips, but most of all he loved me. That is one of the most important gifts a father can give their daughters, to let them know they are loved.
I miss him dearly, he left us for heaven 22 years ago and life has not been the same.
Next person turn... tell us your story

I always thought my dad was the coolest because he started working for a cell phone company back when no one had cell phones. My friends would love taking rides in his car because it had a phone installed with one of those hands-free microphones. And my dad carried around one of those cell phones that was the size of a brick. My friends were all in awe of my dad, and I couldn't have been prouder.

I remember the day that I was sitting in the backseat of my parents' car and said to myself, "My dad is funny." Not sure if I was discovering his sense of humor, or my own. (Both?) My favorite things about my dad:
- He didn't want me to sign up for Little League because he was afraid I'd get hurt. But after I signed myself up anyway, we spent nights tossing the ball in the yard.
- He never pressured my sister or I into getting summer jobs growing up because he said we'd have the rest of our lives to work.
- I totally believe him when he says he just wants me to be happy.
- He was a county politician, who even after being elected to multiple terms, still campaigned door-to-door.
- When I was in college, he wrote me a short letter nearly every day (sometimes just "Dad Loves") and would stick in some $1 bills. (Wow, haven't though of that in years. Thanks for getting me to remember.)
- He taught me an appreciation for Rambo, Rocky, Die Hard, Jaws, and westerns.
