favors are my favorite

Sometimes I have a really, really bad attitude. For example, when I go to baby and bridal showers, there's always a little part of me that thinks, "What's in it for me?"
It's not that I'm not happy for my friends (I am!), but I have a pretty severe case of gift-opening anxiety. I'm always afraid my gift is not good enough, which, admittedly, is ridiculous because the bride/expectant mom told me exactly what she wanted on her registry. Fortunately, exceptional tea sandwiches, girlie libations and cute party favors help calm me immensely.
Here I've listed some of my favorite favors, all of them super-cute, super-affordable and sure to prompt smiles from the most shower-adverse guests.
Wedding Favors
- Bamboo beach mats in honor of a beach wedding.
- Fortune Teller Fish , which double as a fun group activity.
- A mixed CD of love songs. Another option: Ask guests to email their favorite song (love song or otherwise, your choice) and compile a CD of guest favorites.
- Individually packaged Forté tea — especially good for a tea party-themed shower.
- Rosemary-flavored sea salt — just buy small jars, fill with sea salt, and add a fresh sprig of rosemary to each jar.
Baby Shower Favors
- Small burlap bags filled with flower or herb seeds.
- Small boxes filled with homemade cookies.
- Infused blackberry honey for a Winnie the Pooh-themed shower. At a shower I attended, the hostess bought tiny jars with bees painted on them at Costco. Infuse the honey with whatever flavor you like.
And serving cupcakes can never hurt....

Seriously -- it seems like such a competition to see who gave the "best" gift. Some people go all out buying tons of stuff on the registry, while others can only afford a smaller item from the list. It can make things awkward.
Ring pops would be a cute favor for a glam wedding-shower.

I think it's really important to have ONE cute and meaningful party favor as a keepsake. I went to a wedding where there were:
1) engraved champagne glass with the couple's names and wedding date
2) plastic ornament picture frame with the happy couple's picture and names and wedding date.
3) plastic mini wedding bells with the couple's names and wedding date.
4) Jordan almonds in a little plastic chapel-shaped box, with the couple's name and wedding date.
And guess what? It was really just a bunch of plastic crap, held together with cheap ribbon and a hot glue gun. And then I felt guilty throwing it all away afterwards. I think giving one thing that people can use to remember your occasion fondly is the best favor.

Favors are the best, of course I see bad ones and good ones. Bubble favors, I am sorry but are just not favors...brides that is your photo op not a gift to your guests, please give them something else too.
At my wedding we had chocolate and ivory colors. So I hunted chocolate colored boxes down in bulk and chocolate covered espresso beans (new york mix--because they are ivory, goldish, and brown) and tied the box with an ivory ribbon. It went with the "theme" of coffee and chocolate and didn't cost me an arm and a leg--because i bought everything in bulk.

I just planned a wedding and we had a photo booth were pictures were printed on the spot (4 in total) then we gave the guests a glass coaster that they could insert one of the pictures in. The coaster was also used at the beginning of the wedding for seating arrangements. The guest name was inserted in each along with their table number. It was a huge hit!

You can go to an office supple store like staples or office max and buy card stock paper and have them cut it into quarters, The put on them "Best Mothering Tip" at the top of the cards. Put a hole punch in the corner and tie a beutiful ribbon on the card. We placed the cards at each table setting. They looked pretty and it was fun to have each ladies read their tips... Some were sooo funny!!!! They all put them in a basket for the Mom at the end!!!

This is for Mary....
I just did a baby shower for a friend on the 17th of May and never done one before. I had kind of like a potluck to take some of the stresses off of me. Almost all of the guest brought a lil' munchie and their children also came so a babysitter was provided, (some girls from church volunteered for a small price). We had some shower games...Candy in baby bottle...basically place some candy in a baby bottle have everyone guess how many pieces are in the bottle, who ever guesses closest gets a small prize and mom to be gets the baby bottle. More simple game can be found at www.baby-shower.com/games. Hope this helps out!
