Hey all you leprechauns, looking for a little something to nibble on while you enjoy that stout? What could be more appropriate on St. Paddy’s Day than a pint…size potato. And in this year of all years. Yes, the United Nations has declared 2008 the year of the potato. So go carb-crazy and indulge in that age-old Irish tradition of suds and spuds. (As if you needed an extra excuse to make this adorable appetizer.)
I know what you’re thinking: Where am I going to find freakishly small baking potatoes? Not to worry. These are actually new potatoes that have been garnished to look like big ones.

I noticed many cultural differences when I moved from Tennessee to California — chief among them: lack of sausage balls. My first introduction to the hot, cheesy appetizer involved a surprise party in my home state, where a friend and I decided we’d prefer to stick close to the bowl of sausage balls rather than mingle with other people.
In fact, when we hid to surprise the guest of honor, this friend and I might have grabbed that bowl before we squatted behind the couch. It’s possible we were even slow to jump up and say “Surprise!” because we were so distracted by having the sausage balls all to ourselves.
They are that good.
Now my Californian friends act equally ridiculous in the presence of sausage balls. And when I show up to a party sausage ball-less, I occasionally get why-did-you-bother-to-show-up-at-all looks.
So you can experience all this for yourself, I give you: sausage balls.

My son recently celebrated a momentous occasion, his first birthday! It seems every week one of his little buddies is turning 1, which means we’ve been partying it up. I know the “experts” have a lot to say about baby birthdays: Keep it small; invite no more than three babies; parties should not last longer than one hour. Yada, yada.
Well, I ignored all that and hosted a full-blown fiesta. I mean, c’mon, the first year is a big deal, not just for kiddos, but for us parents, too. We survived 12 months of spit-up and poopy diapers, and we want to celebrate! Here are some party tips I picked up along the way for celebrating the big 1!

Most of us in the US lost an hour yesterday for Daylight Savings Time (you did know that, right? If not, you are late for something).
I'm always thrilled for the extra sunlight in the evenings, but it's still hard to lose that hour. It makes me think about what I'd do if I still had it, so now I'm asking you.

If you find wine-tasting snobby and pretentious, the jelly bean wine bar is the wine bar for you: Just pop a handful of hand-picked jelly beans in your mouth and masticate to experience the flavors typically found in various varietals. Turns out the staff at
Wine X magazine have analyzed the flavor components in a variety of vinos and matched them with corresponding jelly bean flavors, then put together kits containing the candy equivalents of syrah, say, or chardonnay.

Yes, we know there’s a saying that everyone’s a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. But let's not get carried away: That doesn’t mean you were born with the superhuman alcohol tolerance of my ancestral, potato-lovin’ people.
So before you down that bowl of Lucky Charms and head off on that pub crawl with nothing but a smile on your face and a spring in your green-leotarded step, let us school you a little in some smart St. Patrick’s Day drinking tips, after the jump. Otherwise, you might find yourself passed out in some corner like a jolly green alcoholic.
If you’re hosting a party or pub crawl, we’ve even got a great idea for a quick yet potentially lifesaving project you can do for your guests. Cheers to that!

A party’s aftermath usually starts with the cleanup and ends with posting digital party pics to the Web [shameless plug: Share your photos with other party guests by adding them to the Evite invitation!
Here's how].

Capture the sights, sounds, hilarious one-liners and embarrassing dance moves of your next soiree by creating a video with images (both still and moving) from your regular old digital camera.
