chocolate rain

Chocolate Fountain

Okay, so you're having a party. Yay! You know your guests are expecting a decadent dessert, and if you're feeling fancy, you might even be planning to bake it yourself.

That's all terrific. But how do you turn your party up to 11? A chocolate fountain. Available in various sizes and prices (the fountain above costs $39.99 and holds up to 2 lbs. of chocolate), it's a party showstopper. To keep fingers out of it, serve a variety of good dippables alongside, like marshmallows, pretzels, strawberries, banana slices, brownies and pound cake cubes. You can even spear and smother other desserts you buy or make, like brownies and cookies. Awesome.

And don't worry; this won't be the sort of gadget you'll stash back in its box, never to be seen again. Break out the fountain for birthdays, office events, kids' parties, cocktail soirees — anytime you're looking for a fun, unexpected dessert and activity in one. Which is all the time, really. My Evite coworkers surprised me on my birthday this year with a chocolate fountain extravaganza (thanks, Eviters!); it made for an especially memorable birthday.

I'm going to a chocolate fountain party in two weeks and I can't wait.

My coworker told me about a party she went to that had three, count 'em THREE, fountains flowing: one milk chocolate, one dark chocolate, and one white chocolate. Yum!!

I have an old-fashioned fondue pot I love (and really use!), but the new-fangled fountains do keep pound cake et al from getting trapped La-Brea-Tar-Pits style in the chocolate mire only to be inadvertently excavated by a later guest. My husband's cousin actually had a chocolate fountain and goodies at his wedding in lieu of a cake. I had, like, seven helpings. P.S. Happy Birthday, Eva!
